My Orientation Group - March/April 2007

I want to introduce my extended family here in Israel - my orientation group. It's true; they all feel like family. I feel extremely lucky that we all bonded so quickly over Orientation Week.

Here we are at our "Tea with the Grossmans" evening

L to R:
Varqa, Faran, Matt, Endy, Shaghayegh, Natasha (front seated)

I still see almost everyone in the lunchroom, except for those that have moved to Akka. I miss you guys! Come visit more often!

Polka dots?

What is the definition of a polka dot?
And why the heck do we call them polka dots anyway?

My friend Synnove has asked me these questions today, mostly because she was wearing a brightly coloured polka-dotted shirt, which I commented on. Which then led to the question of why they are called polka dots. I had no response to that.

Perhaps you, gentle readers, can provide answers to these questions I have posed...

I strictly maintain that the English language is fraught with some rather strange words and phrases, and I will be posting some of the more unusual ones in the near future.

I have joined the Revolution.

Well, not in a literal sense of course.

In point of fact, I mean I have finally created my very own blog. Now, no one can say that I am not keeping them in the loop about my comings and goings.

But if you thought I meant a spiritual revolution...then yes, I suppose I have.

I am living in Haifa, Israel for the next two years or so, and it's been quite the life-altering experience so far. Volunteering abroad for a couple of years may seem insane to some, but to me it's a way of life. Like I said, there's a spiritual revolution happening in the world today, and I get to be a part of it.

Pretty exciting, n'est pas?

Be on the lookout for more posts coming soon!
I may even throw in a picture or two for emphasis!

Catch y'all on the flipside...
